HotHouse Professional Training

Language started as noises expressing a need, a feeling, an intent to another living being; and that noise… came from the body as a whole

What is HotHouse Professional Training?

The practice of embodied acting that draws on a variety of stage-acting methods. HotHouse Founder, Blanka Zizka, defines it as “emotion, body, voice, all in fluid expression.” Members of the HotHouse Resident Acting Company have met weekly for 10+ years to train in what results in their being some of the most accomplished and recognized actors in our region and nationally.

Training participants learn to:

  • Transcend the fear of risk-taking in performance
  • Build trust within a collective
  • Access creative impulse onstage
  • Deepen their focus
  • Expand expression through physical and vocal fitness
  • Approach the text and staging of a play through ensemble experimentation and discovery
  • Embrace each actor as the author of their own performance

This is all about cultivating the collective – moving out of the self and making it about the other.
