This event is PAY WHAT YOU WILMA, meaning you choose what you pay.

WHAT

The Wilma Theater’s Black Affinity Night is a mindful curation of an environment meant to center the experience of people who identify as part of the Black community — dedicated to generating a space for Black identifying individuals to engage with the performance in ways that are authentic to them.

WHO

All people who self-identify as Black, and their guests, are specifically invited to attend. Though no one will be turned away, it is encouraged that folks outside of the Black community join us on another night!

WHY

The Wilma Theater seeks to welcome and celebrate the Black community of Philadelphia in our theatre space. We strive towards making our theater an equitable and representative space for all audiences.

WHEN

Friday, February 21 performance of THE HALF-GOD OF RAINFALL

ABOUT OUR EVENT PARTNERS

The Black Theatre Alliance of Philadelphia is a coalition committed to supporting and uplifting the Black theatre artists in the Greater Philadelphia area while challenging and encouraging the Greater Philadelphia theatre community to be more proactive in their commitment to equity and equality. It is with great enthusiasm that we partner with the Wilma Theater to host a Black Affinity Night for their production of Fat Ham.

ODUNDE is a world-renowned cultural organization whose mission is to educate the public on the African and African-American culture. The ODUNDE festival is the “staple event” for the organization and the City of Philadelphia. It is largest African American street festival in the USA.

Africatown – A community rich in history, culture, and the spirit of togetherness, Africatown is located in Southwest Philadelphia and is designed as an economic development initiative to create jobs for youth, expand business ownership among residents, and reduce poverty in one of the city’s most economically challenged areas. To achieve these goals, Africatown’s development will transform the community into a thriving ‘Tourist Destination Point’ for the global African diaspora and all who seek to experience its vibrant culture and opportunities.

Good Karma Cafe is the Wilma Theater’s resident coffee shop! Good Karma Café was founded in 2007 with a clear vision in mind. We wanted to open an awesome coffee shop that did everything right and in line with our personal values of economic parity, sustainable ecology, and genuine relationships. We made a commitment to that vision on day 1 and owner Shawn Nesbit, with the support and contributions of all staff members in the stores, continue to focus on delivering on that vision – one cup at a time, one guest at a time, one day at a time.
