Workshop Description

This all-levels workshop is open to actors seeking to practice or refine their audition skills. We will be focusing solely on monologue and cold-side auditioning, not musical theatre songs or dance calls. Whether you’re an emerging actor seeking help on your first foray into auditioning or you’re a seasoned performer wanting to dust off or tryout some material, this workshop will be a hybrid coaching session and business of theatre crash course. On our second day we will engage in a mock-audition scenario, offering each student tailored feedback on their presence, presentation, and execution. Students will learn from both engaging as participant and witnessing others work.

Over the course of two sessions, students will:

  • Receive feedback and coaching on material of their choosing
  • Discuss various kinds of auditioning and the Philadelphia Theatre landscape
  • Connect with tips and tricks for navigating nerves and curve balls
  • Become more confident in exploring theatrical text

More about this class:

Students are expected to come prepared to play with monologues and audition sides. While this class is open to all students and all ages regardless of previous experience, it is recommended for participants to come in with monologues they intend or have used as audition material. Monologue audition material in this context is seen as a 1-2min piece from a Contemporary dramatic or comedic play. However, if students do not have material that is ready to be performed, instructor will offer pieces in-session. Students can come with various levels of preparedness – from fully memorized to script-in-hand. Note that the farther along a piece is prepared, the farther we can go with feedback and coaching. All participants are expected to participate and a short break will be given mid-session for any additional needs. Instructor will send more details upon enrollment.
