3 Ways You Can Help Support the Arts

This Giving Tuesday, you can make a huge different to arts organizations like the Wilma! Throughout the COVID-19 crisis, we at the Wilma are proud to have continued to employ artists and engage with audiences and students throughout Philadelphia. None of this work would be possible without your help and support. Here are some ways to help support the arts this Giving Tuesday:

1. Be An #ArtsHero

We’re teaming up with Be An #ArtsHero to provide you with resources to take action!

Join the #ArtsAreMySuperpower initiative. A nationwide effort for children, young adults, families, and classrooms to write letters to Senators voicing support for the arts throughout the month of November.
- PROTIP: Be An #ArtsHero has a list of Senators, their social media handles, and contact forms. Grab some friends and host a virtual letter writing party!
Add you voice to their Open Letter to the 116th US Congress.
Donate to fund the movement. Be An #ArtsHero is a national, non-partisan grassroots movement that emphasizes Arts & Culture’s $877 billion contribution to the economy, urging Congress for immediate relief and recovery. They are a united, intersectional, sector-wide coalition that exists to defend and position the Arts & Culture sector of the U.S. as a legislative priority for support and investment commensurate with our socioeconomic value. Closer to home, the Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance‘s #LightsOn initiative is illuminating the impact of arts and culture in Greater Philadelphia.

Click here to send a letter to your City Council members to ask them to stand with arts and culture and to support our sector in creating community-empowering solutions for the many challenges Philadelphia continues to face.

2. Run a DIY fundraiser

Create a post to share with your friends why this organization is meaningful to you and why they should be supported.

To create your fundraiser:

Click Fundraisers in the left menu of your News Feed. You may need to click See More.
Click + Raise Money.
Select Nonprofit or Charity.
Select a charitable organization, fill in the fundraiser details and choose a cover photo.
Click Create.

3. Donate Directly

You can always donate directly to the cultural organizations you love!

At 7:30 p.m., on Tuesday, Dec. 1, we hosted a livestream featuring our Portable Studio Director Lee Etzold leading the cast of Heroes of the Fourth Turning in a discussion about how to have difficult conversations with loved ones when you disagree.
